First thing first. Congratulations on your acceptance into nursing school! Make no mistake, this is not to be taken lightly. You have worked your way to gain a seat into a very competitive field. No one just enters nursing school on a whim. You must be knowledgeable enough to be considered, as well as meet special requirements set forth by an approved nursing program. You have made it to a milestone on your nursing journey...and that is something to be proud of. So again, congratulations!
Now what about your job? Well there is no right or wrong answer. One must do what is best for them at the time. People enter nursing school at various times. There is no one size fits all. Some nursing students are parents of young children or teens. Some students just graduated high school, while others are returning to college after having worked in a different career for years. Some people are single, while others are married.
Whatever the situation is...ask yourself the following questions. Evaluate your answers and be open with your family and friends about what is expected of you as a nursing student and what you will need on this journey.
Questions to consider...
What does my household budget look like without my income?
Are there any resources that can help me? Scholarships?
Am I able to scale back to part-time work?
Other considerations...
You will need time outside of class for studying and homework.
Nursing school will take up a lot of your time, both on and off campus.
You will need other items outside of tuition. Uniforms? Textbooks? Student ID?
You will need reliable transportation. There are limited days allowed for absences in nursing school - especially clinical days!
The best thing you can do is be prepared for this new journey. Take the time to decide how you will handle nursing school and go from there. Remember you can always adjust your life and school along the way.
